Study - Velvet Corset Dress

A quick velvet Dress I put together!

I initially saw a variation of this dress on a website called Disturbia, who seemed to have a lot of these types of dresses. So instead of getting into the urge to buy one myself, I figured, why not try my hand at velvet as a fabric! :)

The velvet fabric itself has gone through some adaptations. I initially simply used the one Marvelous designer comes with. However, the exported textures from there had the roughness and metallic map as both white, meaning it came through as this weird wet-looking fabric.

After that, I figured I'd check if I can make this work better inside Unreal engine itself, rather than coming up with a solution outside of it. Turns out that was indeed much easier!

While in Blender I'd use the "Sheen" shader and mix the regular 'Princible shader' to get the result. But obviously in Unreal Engine that process is slightly different. (but surprisingly easier!).

After adding a fuzzyShading node, connecting that up with my 'general' material setup actually did make this look 10x better even compared to my blender setup!
